Hey gang,
Everyone who has been on social, turned on the TV, or read the news for the last week or two has probably heard about the professor of breakdancing from Australia that enhanced the world with her kangaroo hops and snake-like slides, bringing marsupial musical mania to mankind. But everyone is missing the point by simply pointing out at breakneck speed, her lack of skill compared to her world-class Olympic competitors. Here are my takeaways –
Breakdancing is still a thing. But that thing is now called breaking. And break-dancers are called b-girls and b-boys. It sounds so cool when I say those things out loud. Don’t believe me? Just try saying b-boy or b-girl followed by your first name and not smiling.
Inspired by her kangaroo hop being a part of Olympic history, after
some in house, late-night, private dance testing, I can confirm I have safely added it to my repertoire of dance moves (bringing my total to 3). Now I just have to find the right moment to break it out – hopefully at an event with no breaking judges.When I search for B boy names in Google, it gives me Barrett, Beau, Blake, Brooks, Bailey, Bennett, and Bentley. Those names are just tailor made to be b-boys.
Once the Olympics and my late night dancing sessions ended, I was left with a glut of new dance moves and a satisfying amount of conviction that I was one step (hop) closer to becoming an Olympian. Suffice it to say, my wife is happy they announced breaking will not be returning for the 2028 Olympics.
The Work
While breaking a move, I was able to contemplate some of the awesome work the
Sharp Guys team has done this year. One fantastic project, in particular, involved Hewitt Molding Company, a family-owned manufacturer in Kokomo with 58 years of history. The result was an incredible new website that not only highlights the client’s services and history but also seamlessly ties them to their rich past while propelling their online presence into the future—much like they do with their own clients’ projects.
