Hey gang,

With yesterday’s announcement that the penny is likely going away – the coin best known for Lincoln’s visage, superstitious head-up retrievals, dubious train derailments, and being put in the mouths of toddlers (and potentially zinc-deficient adults) everywhere – I got to thinking. After decades of it costing more to make than it’s worth when used, the penny’s demise isn’t so surprising. But what it truly symbolizes is inflation’s relentless grip. After all, thoughts, once costing a socially agreed-upon “penny,” are now poised to hyperinflate to at least a nickel. Outrageous.

And thoughts, historically a valuable commodity, had already lost much of their luster. Some trace this decline as far back as Shakespeare’s lesser-known play, Romeo and Juliet 2: The Zombie Years. Nowadays, thoughts are hitting all-time lows, with some reportedly selling for as little as 1/10th of one “whatever.”

It might just be time for thoughts to follow the penny’s path – or at least for their value to round up. Ultimately, it seems when thoughts are expressed, they should be worth more than the electrons it now takes to share them.  Then again, judging by this email’s ability to stay on a topic, maybe thoughts like mine are just right circling one of those donation wishing wells that used to welcome us to malls (and showcase Kepler’s Law of Planetary Motion).

The Work

The Sharp Guys crew has been hard at work during the last 6 months. We’ve completed some awesome projects but one that really stands out iswater for good Water for Good’s newly rebranded website. Redesigns that involve incorporating two different organizations into one final brand aren’t always the easiest thing to do. But in this case, both fellow teammate Jeremy Butcher’s experience and Water for Good’s awesome team made that process so much smoother.  Check out their website and if you can, join me in donating to a great cause.

Other Good Stuff

For over two years, we’ve enjoyed the expertise of Erica Morgan, who has served as our Content Specialist on a part-time basis. However, starting January 13th, Erica has graciously accepted a full-time position with us as a Digital Marketing Specialist. While she will continue to manage our client content, she will also be able to fully utilize her design and marketing skills to further assist our clients. If you get the opportunity to work with her, please extend your congratulations on her new role – we couldn’t be more thrilled to have her on board!

I recently designed a software from the ground up called GameTime Lineups intended for rec baseball and softball coaches that want to make lineup creation both fair for kids and a breeze.  If you’re a coach or coach-adjacent, check it out for yourself and if after seeing the demo, you think it would be a disaster for your team to use, send it to a competing league coach to sabotage them with ‘success’.

As always, thanks for reading, and if you have time, reach out and let me know how things are going in your life.
